WATCH: UPDATE: Justice Has Not Been Served for Puppy Punted to Death from Tailgate in Mississippi

We are extremely disappointed with the failure of the Holmes County District Attorney for failing to prosecute Drone Da-Quan Brown for the sadistic killing of an innocent puppy in Lexington, Mississippi.

In 2023, multiple organizations called for Brown’s arrest following a Facebook post that went viral of a puppy in a sitting position being picked up and punted from a truck bed high into the air and then slamming lifelessly onto the parking lot pavement. Brown’s perverse audience laughed and cheered at the macabre crime.

He was initially charged with a misdemeanor, but it was finally upgraded to a felony following public outcry. More than 21,000 people signed our alert urging the 21st Judicial Circuit Court District Attorney Akillie Malone-Oliver to present this case to the next grand jury.

She didn’t act. The case was abandoned. If you’re unhappy with Holmes County District Attorney Akillie Malone-Oliver, please call her to let her know. He could and should have gotten a year of imprisonment for aggravated animal cruelty to animals.

“It’s appalling that a puppy who should have been experiencing the bliss of puppyhood fell into the hands of a sadistic group of humans. What’s worse is that it took animal advocates unleashing relentless inquiries before the identified puppy killer was arrested and charged.”

- Justice for Animals Senior Campaigner Doll Stanley

Stanley and fellow regional animal protectionists have found Holmes County officials to be chronically resistant to aiding with the protection of animals, which is extremely disappointing.

The only good news to report is that the defendant did actually get prosecuted for the murder of a human and will have to spend a little bit of time in jail. He was convicted of murder and will be incarcerated for 10 years, then have 5 years of supervised release, and then 5 years of unsupervised release.
