WATCH: Delivering Housing & Care, One Dog at a Time
For 32 years, In Defense of Animals has been on the ground in Mississippi, protecting and saving thousands of dogs and cats who might otherwise have no one. Each one matters. Every individual longs for peace, security, and love.
Precious is one of those dogs. She’s lived with her guardian since she was just six weeks old as a cherished family member and loyal companion. But when her guardian became disabled and lost her job, life grew painfully uncertain. She reached out to us for help.
Our Mississippi Senior Campaigner, Doll Stanley, answered the call. Doll has given her heart to countless dogs like Precious ever since she exposed a horrific case that led the USDA to revoke licenses from two Class B animal dealers. She couldn’t bear to uproot Precious from the only home and guardian she’s ever known, so Doll drives 90 miles round-trip, bringing food and supplies to keep them both safe and together.

Thanks to your support, Precious has been spayed, fully vetted, and gifted with a warm igloo doghouse through our Shelter Project. Doll still chuckles when recalling the chaotic day four adults struggled to load Precious for her spay appointment — all while a dashing spaniel “suitor” tried to sneak into the van for the ride, determined not to be left behind!
Precious is safe because caring people stepped up. But there are so many more dogs who are still waiting for help. We cannot reach them all — but with your compassion, we can do our part, one life at a time.
We have aided many dogs with our Igloo housing program. While we would want these dogs to live inside as cherished family members, traditions change slowly in Mississippi, and we are doing our best to see that they have shelter. The dogs in the videos represent merely a fraction of the ones who we have helped.
Please, stand with us to protect dogs like Precious. Your gift, or even the simple act of sharing and speaking out, makes all the difference.
