Pennsylvania Residents: Make Sure Sunday Hunting Remains Illegal
This alert is no longer active, but here for reference. Animals still need your help.
This alert is for Pennsylvania state residents.
A bill moving through the Pennsylvania Senate after clearing the House, HB 1431, would legalize hunting on Sundays, taking away the only reprieve for animals and outdoor enthusiasts during hunting season and handing it over to hunters.
One day a week where other recreationalists—bikers, hikers, runners, birdwatchers, horseback riders, and others—can enjoy the outdoors without the added concern of nearby gunfire or needing to wear bright orange will disappear if HB 1431 passes. Sadly, the bill has already passed the House, so HB 1431 (and SB 67, an identical Senate bill that has not advanced) is about to become a reality if we don't stop it now, It would allow hunting on Sundays, which is currently prohibited. Contact your one state senator and ask them not to support HB 1431.
An estimated 476,880 deer were heartlessly killed in the 2024–25 hunting season in the state. This large number of tragic deer deaths has not solved previous agricultural complaints, and this bill would only increase that number by expanding hunting opportunities. The bill would also require that one member of the Game Commission represent agricultural interests related to wildlife conservation—a perspective that often conflicts with wildlife protection.
Please contact your senator and request that, as someone who enjoys the outdoors in Pennsylvania, you want Sundays to remain free from hunting. Urge them to oppose HB 1431 and any legislation that would allow Sunday hunting.

Letter to Decision Maker(s) for reference:
Subject: Please Oppose HB 1431- Don’t Allow Sunday Hunting
I’m writing to respectfully urge you to oppose HB 1431, which would allow hunting on Sundays in Pennsylvania.
For many Pennsylvanians, Sunday is the only day of the week when outdoor spaces can be enjoyed without the presence of active hunting. Bikers, hikers, runners, birdwatchers, horseback riders, and others who value the outdoors deserve one day of undisturbed access to public lands—without the noise, safety concerns, or need for high-visibility gear that hunting season already demands. The majority of residents and taxpayers in Pennsylvania are non-hunters.
This bill will not solve agricultural complaints about wildlife and instead unfairly shifts more power toward hunting interests. Adding a single extra day of hunting each week does nothing to address the root causes of conflict and instead prioritizes a narrow interest group at the expense of others. Long-term strategies rooted in coexistence and prevention—not expanded hunting access—are what’s needed.
In addition, HB 1431 includes a provision to add a Game Commission member representing agricultural interests. If the goal is truly fair and balanced wildlife policy, it would only be reasonable to also appoint someone from the broader non-hunting outdoor recreation community. Pennsylvania’s public lands serve more than just hunters, and the Game Commission should reflect the full range of residents who use and care about these spaces.
Please vote NO on HB 1431 and other legislation that would allow Sunday hunting to ensure that public lands remain inclusive and that outdoor recreation remains safe and accessible for all Pennsylvanians—at least one day a week.
Thank you for your kind consideration of this very important issue.
Sincerely,
Signed
