Florida Woman Drowns Her Dog in Airport Toilet

This alert is no longer active, but here for reference. Animals still need your help.

A Florida woman is facing an animal cruelty charge for allegedly drowning her dog in a bathroom at the Orlando International Airport after being told she couldn't take him on her flight to Colombia due to improper paperwork. Demand maximum sentencing in this case!

According to court documents, on December 16, 2024, authorities responded to a report of a dead dog whose body was found by an employee in a trash can in a women's restroom. Responding officers found trash over the dog's body and dog gear, including a collar, rabies tag, companion vest, and dog travel bag.

In Defense of Animals

The dog was identified as a 9-year-old mini Schnauzer named Tywinn, and his supposed guardian was identified as Alison Lawrence, thanks to all the identifying items she left behind.

Further investigation uncovered footage of Lawrence being denied entry to her flight over lacking the proper paperwork for traveling internationally with Tywinn. Surveillance footage also showed her then heading to the bathroom and later returning to board her flight without him.

In Defense of Animals

On March 3, a necropsy conducted by a veterinarian at the University of Florida determined he had been intentionally drowned.

Lawrence has been arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty, which comes with penalties of up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine, and tampering with evidence.

Letter to Decision Maker(s) for reference:

Subject: Woman Who Callously Drowned Her Dog to Make a Flight Must be Handed Maximum Sentence

I am writing to you to support the prosecution of Alison Lawrence, who was charged with animal cruelty and tampering with evidence for allegedly drowning her 9-year-old dog Tywinn at the Orlando International Airport after being denied entry to her flight for lacking proper paperwork to travel internationally with him.

Overwhelming evidence obtained by the Orlando Police Department points to the callous disregard Lawrence had for her actions when she decided to kill her dog, instead of seeking alternative arrangements for his care.

There is no excuse for her actions and she must be held accountable to the maximum extent the law allows with a five-year prison sentence and $10,000 fine, and she must additionally be mandated to undergo mental health treatment and be barred from obtaining animals in the future.

I will be following this case to fruition and hope to see your office prosecute this case to the fullest degree possible. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Sincerely,

Signed
