Meet the Peacocks of Freedom Farms: A Feathered Family in the Trees

If you've ever visited Freedom Farms, chances are the first thing you heard and maybe the first to greet you were our vibrant and vocal peacocks. With their dazzling feathers and larger-than-life personalities, these five majestic birds have called the sanctuary home for over eight years, and they play an important role in creating a sense of comfort for Freedom Farms' visitors.

Our peacock family consists of three boys and two girls, and each one brings something special to the flock:

  • Romeo, our proud and watchful leader, is always in the center of the action. Territorial and alert, he acts as an early warning system, letting us know when someone arrives—or if a predator is near.

  • Pretty Boy is the farm’s most glamorous resident. He loves admiring his reflection in windows and shiny car doors. While he sometimes keeps to himself, he’s never far from the rest of the group.

  • Penelope, our matriarch, rarely strays from Romeo’s side. She’s also a proud mom to two peafowl born here: Handsome, a young male, and Peepers, a curious and spirited female.

These clever birds have mastered survival at the sanctuary by roosting high in the tallest trees near the old shop each night to stay safe from predators. Despite their strong personalities, they coexist peacefully with all the other animals at Freedom Farms.

Our peacocks don’t just live here; they help define the atmosphere. Their calls are often the first sounds you’ll hear when you arrive, creating a warm, welcoming energy that puts visitors at ease and sets the tone for connection. With their beauty, intelligence, and quirky charm, they remind us every day of the joy and magic animals bring into our lives.

Say hello the next time you visit, and they'll likely be the first to greet you.
